FAQs
What type of cattle do you raise at Evridge Farms?
We raise a cross between Angus and Akaushi beef for a couple of reasons. Akaushi beef comes from a Japanese cattle breed known for exceptional marbling, tenderness, and rich flavor. Akaushi cattle are part of the Wagyu family of breeds, but they have their own distinct genetics and characteristics. At Evridge Farms, we raise Akaushi-influenced beef in West Texas to provide families with premium, flavorful beef they can buy directly from the ranch.
How does shipping beef direct to our home work?
Evridge Farms ships frozen beef directly to customers throughout Texas. Our beef is carefully packaged to help it remain frozen during transit, giving customers a convenient way to order Texas-raised beef online and have ranch-direct beef delivered to their home. We use dry ice to keep your beef frozen for the trip- it arrives frozen. We typically ship UPS.
How is your beef raised and fed?
Our cattle are born here and raised on our grass pastures south of Midland, Texas. We finish them on a hay and barley ration grown by us or sourced locally in West Texas. The grain-finished approach helps us produce the premium eating quality we want in our Texas-raised Akaushi beef and produces consistent marbling and a rich flavor. At Evridge Farms, we focus on responsible cattle care, quality nutrition, and raising beef our own family is proud to eat. Because we grown our own inputs, we aren’t as affected by swings and panics in the markets that affect other operations.
Do you use antibiotics and hormones in your feed?
You would be surprised to know that most feed operations do use growth hormones and antibiotics in feed. This cuts down on medical issues and sickness in a feedlot where cattle are housed in very large numbers and close proximity. At Evridge Farms, we do not feed antibiotics or hormones, EVER.
What day is delivery in Midland, Greenwood, Odessa, Gardendale, and surrounding areas?
We deliver every single Monday- straight to your front door. On holiday weekends, like Labor Day, we deliver on the following Tuesday.
Are there any stores that I can purchase your beef from?
You can buy our beef in our local grocery store in Rankin, Texas called the Rankin Drive-In and in Big Spring, Texas at the Farm Stand (location of the farmers market).
What makes the quality so different?
With 350 customer reviews, it is clear that our quality is much higher than the big box store beef. That has to do with the breed, Akaushi and the extra time and care we put into the process from birth all the way to delivery. Akaushi cattle do take extra time to reach ideal marbling and size. We harvest them in Mertzon, Texas where we also use an extended aging process to absolutely maximize tenderness and flavor. All of our beef is hand cut and frozen in vacuum sealed packages.
Can I stop by the farm and pick up my beef?
Yes, most days we can make that work. Just please make arrangements in advance. We live here and are chasing two high school boys around.
Can my family visit the farm to see how the cattle are raised?
We absolutely welcome families to come out and see the operation, cattle, and meet our family. Please call or reach out via email to set that up.
What is the fat content of your ground beef?
Our ground beef is typically in the 80/20 range but can be more lean just depending on how that specific cut went. I would always recommend draining the fat after cooking so you at least have a richer flavor if you prefer a leaner beef.
What is the benefit of buy direct from the farmer/rancher in West Texas?
Buying beef directly from a farmer or rancher gives you greater transparency about where your food comes from and how the cattle were raised. It also allows you to build a connection with the people producing your food, support local agriculture, and often access high-quality beef that is carefully raised, processed, and packaged with the customer in mind. At Evridge Farms, buying ranch-direct means you know the source of your beef and can feel confident about what you are feeding your family. We could go on and on about this. Basically, it means that you don’t have to worry about imports and recalls on foreign beef.
Why wont you sell outside of Texas anymore?
We only ship within Texas now because our processor is state inspected and without federal inspection we cannot sell across state lines. Does this mean there is a difference in the actual quality control or inspection. No. Unfortunately, every time these restrictions are proposed to be lifted, certain lobbies representing the beef industry (large packers, not ranchers) get it squashed. Unfortunately, our food systems are just not set up to support individual and local operations.
There is plenty of demand in the communities of West Texas to keep us busy so for now, that is the focus.
