We love to have "Guiso" as we call it. Carne Guisada is a popular Mexican dish that our whole family loves. This recipe is truly mild enough for everyone with a great flavor. As a busy mom, I love that I dump it all in together and it comes out perfectly. Its a great alternative use of stew meat. Our sassy and smart Aunt Jessie shared this recipe and I promise your family will love it.
Carne Guisada translates literally to "stewed meat" and this dish is so easy, your family won't know you didn't spend hours in the kitchen slaving away. This mild and flavorful Mexican dish is great over rice or in a tortilla with toppings. I usually double the recipe and freeze the leftovers, if they last that long.
Pat stew meat dry and coat lightly with flour. I typically put mine in a gallon bag and shake.
Add olive oil or butter to large pot or dutch oven then add beef and brown for 5-10 minutes.
Stir in veggies and spices well.
Add tomatoes and broth, stir
Turn to simmer and let it cook for at least 30 minutes but the flavor gets better over time. I like to cook mine on low for 1-2 hours just keep it stirred and the heat low so it doesn’t burn to the bottom.
Serve over rice or in tortillas with all of the toppings.
